Monster Train is a roguelike deckbuilder from Shiny Shoe, released in 2020. Hell has frozen over, and you must ride a train full of demons down to its depths to protect the Pyre, the last burning flame, from the invading forces of Heaven.
What sets it apart is its vertical battlefield: the train has three floors plus the Pyre room, and you place monsters and cast spells across them as enemies climb upward. You combine two of several clans, each with its own cards and champion, building powerful synergies. Covenant levels add difficulty, and daily challenges and a multiplayer Hell Rush mode keep runs fresh. Monster Train 2 (2025) continued the story with new clans and the Heaven side joining forces.
