Need for Speed has been around since 1994, when The Need for Speed appeared with licensed exotic cars and a focus on realistic handling. Electronic Arts turned it into one of the longest-running racing series in gaming.
Over the years the series has changed its personality several times. Hot Pursuit made police chases the main event, Underground and Most Wanted brought tuning culture, neon and open cities, and later entries such as Heat and Unbound mixed street racing with a story about building a reputation.
