Onimusha, created by Capcom under producer Keiji Inafune, launched in 2001 on PlayStation 2. It blends sword combat with survival horror roots, sending samurai Samanosuke against the Genma, demons serving a resurrected Oda Nobunaga in Sengoku-era Japan.
Defeated enemies release souls that you absorb with a demonic gauntlet to power up weapons and magic, and perfectly timed counter-attacks called Issen can cut enemies down in one stroke. Later games starred actors such as Takeshi Kaneshiro and Jean Reno as character models.
The return of the series
Onimusha: Warlords received a remaster for modern platforms in 2019, and Capcom announced Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a new entry set in Kyoto. Onimusha game keys are a great fit for anyone who enjoys stylish, focused sword action with a dark atmosphere.
