Unravel was made by Swedish studio Coldwood Interactive and published by EA in 2016. You play as Yarny, a small creature made from a single strand of red wool, travelling through Scandinavian landscapes to recover the memories of an elderly woman's family.
Yarny's wool unravels as he moves, so the thread itself becomes the puzzle tool: tie knots to swing, build bridges and pull objects, while making sure you don't run out. The photorealistic nature settings and gentle music give it a melancholic, heartfelt mood. Unravel Two (2018) added a second Yarny and local co-op, with two players connected by one thread.
Unravel game keys are a lovely choice for calm puzzle-platforming, alone or with a partner.
