About Dead Space (2008)

Dead Space is a sci-fi survival horror game developed by EA Redwood Shores and published by Electronic Arts. Steam release date: 9 January 2009.

The huge mining ship USG Ishimura goes dark after unearthing a strange artifact on a distant planet. Engineer Isaac Clarke arrives with a small repair crew and finds the ship overrun by Necromorphs, reanimated creatures that shrug off headshots. To survive you must cut off their limbs with improvised mining tools such as the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun and Ripper, upgrading them at benches with scarce resources. Zero-gravity sections, vacuum areas and the diegetic HUD on Isaac's suit keep you in the moment, and stasis and kinesis help with puzzles and fights. Expect intense violence, blood and gore. Online authentication via EA is required.

Key Features

  • Improvised weapons – mining tools turned deadly.

If the creaking corridors of the Ishimura got under your skin, Alien: Isolation delivers the same isolation on a space station where a single alien stalks you and fighting back is rarely an option. System Shock 2 is the classic that inspired much of Dead Space, with a derelict starship, audio logs and a rogue AI watching every step. For a slower, more cryptic take on sci-fi dread, SIGNALIS sends a replica searching a buried facility in a story full of retro-futurist horror. And Amnesia: The Bunker brings the tension back down to earth in a First World War bunker where noise draws a lurking creature towards you.
