About Dead Space (2008)

Dead Space is the 2008 sci-fi survival horror classic developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. A massive deep-space mining ship, the USG Ishimura, goes dark after unearthing a strange artifact on a distant planet. Engineer Isaac Clarke joins the repair mission, only to uncover a nightmarish scene: the crew has been horribly slaughtered and infected by an alien scourge. Now Isaac is cut off, trapped and engaged in a desperate fight for survival, and it is up to him to get to the bottom of what happened aboard the ship.

The enemies are the Necromorphs, and they are unlike ordinary monsters. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands, so to survive you must strategically dismember them, cutting off their insect-like limbs one at a time. This turns every encounter into a tense puzzle of aim and nerve. Zero gravity sections add another layer of fear, because in weightless areas terror can strike from anywhere. The dark corridors, flickering lights and eerie sound design of the Ishimura create one of the most memorable atmospheres in horror gaming.

Traditional firearms are rare aboard the Ishimura, but Isaac’s toolkit has plenty of stopping power. The Plasma Cutter fires horizontal or vertical blasts of energy, the Disc Ripper sends out a remotely controlled high-speed sawblade, and the Line Gun fills hallways with wide swaths of destruction. Each tool has an alternate fire mode, and you can buy upgrades to increase ammo, power and reload speed. Everything takes place in real time, so reloading or digging through your inventory gives the Necromorphs a perfect chance to attack. You can never drop your guard.

The GOG version of Dead Space (2008) is developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts, and it runs on Windows. It is available in nine languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian and Russian. The system requirements are modest by today’s standards, so the game runs well on most PCs. The game is very violent and gory and is intended for adult players only. It suits fans of survival horror, science fiction and tense third-person action who want to experience the original journey into the dark halls of the Ishimura.
