About Obduction
Obduction is a first-person adventure from Cyan, the legendary studio behind Myst and Riven. Released in 2016 after a successful crowdfunding campaign, it is a spiritual successor to those classics and brings their sense of wonder and quiet discovery into a modern engine. Late one night, while walking under a clear sky, you are taken by a strange organic object that falls from the stars. When you wake up, you find yourself far from home in a place that is both alien and oddly familiar.
Before you lies Hunrath, a piece of a small American town with houses, a diner and a dusty main street, now standing beneath an alien sky inside a mysterious dome. Its few remaining residents have vanished or speak only through recorded messages, and the land around it hides machines, locked doors and strange technology. Soon you discover that Hunrath is only one of several worlds, each with its own landscape, its own logic and its own story, linked together by a puzzling network of devices that you slowly learn to understand.
The heart of Obduction is exploration and puzzle-solving at your own pace. Special swap orbs exchange whole sections of terrain between worlds, opening new paths and changing the places you thought you knew. Puzzles are woven naturally into the environment, so you read notes, study machines and connect clues across different worlds to move forward. Choices also carry weight: as the truth about the abduction emerges, you must decide who to believe and what to do, and those decisions lead to different endings.
Obduction blends live-action characters with richly detailed 3D worlds, and the ambient soundtrack adds to its mysterious, dreamlike mood. Controller support and cloud saves make it comfortable to play, and the game runs on Windows and macOS.
