About Chaos on Deponia

Chaos on Deponia is a hand-drawn point-and-click adventure developed and published by Daedalic Entertainment, released on 6 November 2012. It is the second part of the Deponia series and takes players back to a planet covered in endless mountains of junk, where the self-confident inventor Rufus dreams of escaping to the floating city of Elysium. The game builds on the humour of the first chapter and turns out to be even wackier, with absurd situations, quick dialogue and a hero who causes as many problems as he solves.

After the events of the first game, Rufus seems to have changed. He appears prudent, friendly and caring, with no intention of creating chaos for his own benefit. Of course, that does not last long. A flaming saw blade brings the beautiful Goal crashing down to Deponia once more, and by accident her consciousness is split into three separate personalities stored on three different discs. Now Rufus must use his questionable charm to convince all three parts of Goal to become one again, travel with her to Elysium and save the planet from destruction.

The adventure is driven by classic inventory puzzles. You explore richly detailed scenes, talk to a cast of bizarre characters, collect strange objects and combine them in creative ways to move forward. The puzzles are challenging and often delightfully illogical in a way that fits the crazy world, so careful observation and a sense of humour are both essential. The story is self-contained and can be enjoyed without having played the first game, while returning fans discover new details about familiar characters and get answers to open questions.

The art style is one of the highlights: full HD hand-drawn backgrounds and high-quality cartoon animation in a comic look give every location a unique character. The world honours the tradition of authors such as Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Matt Groening, and an elaborate soundtrack sets the atmosphere. Full voice acting is available in several languages, achievements and trading cards are included, and cloud saves protect your progress. The game is rated PEGI 12 (Germany 6).
