About Tangle Tower
Tangle Tower is a fully voiced, hand-animated mystery adventure developed and published by SFB Games, the British studio also known for Snake Pass and the earlier Detective Grimoire. It was released on 22 October 2019. Detective Grimoire and his sharp-witted partner Sally travel to Tangle Tower, a strange and twisted mansion, after the painter Freya Fellowhall is found dead in a locked room. The only witness seems to be a painting of a girl holding a knife, and everyone who lives in the tower has something to hide.
The tower is home to two rival families, the Fellowhalls and the Pointers, who live in separate halves of the estate and barely speak to each other. Each resident is a memorable character with a distinctive design, voice and personality, from inventors and musicians to the eccentric Fifi. You explore the mansion and its grounds room by room, from the lake’s edge to cluttered workshops and libraries, looking at objects, collecting curious clues and slowly uncovering the long history that connects the two families to each other and to the tower itself.
Investigation is driven by conversation. You can ask every suspect about any clue or any other character, and their answers reveal new leads, contradictions and secrets. The game never relies on random guessing: at key moments you build your theory by combining the right clues and statements to complete a deduction, and when you get it right the story moves forward. Along the way you also solve unique puzzles hidden around the tower, such as mechanical locks, coded boxes and odd contraptions, each designed to fit naturally into the world.
Tangle Tower is a calm, thoughtful experience with no time pressure. A notebook keeps track of clues, characters and open questions, and a hint system helps if you ever get stuck. The striking animation and the full English voice acting give the story the feel of an animated series, and the mystery can usually be solved in around six to eight hours. It supports full controller play, a mouse-only option, adjustable volume and colour alternatives, so it is easy to play at your own pace and in the setup you prefer.
