About Baba Is You

Baba Is You is a puzzle game by the Finnish solo developer Arvi Teikari, released under his studio Hempuli Oy in March 2019. It began as a Nordic Game Jam 2017 winner and went on to take the Excellence in Design and Best Student Game awards at the Independent Games Festival 2018.

In every level, the rules are physical word blocks lying on the map, such as BABA IS YOU, WALL IS STOP or FLAG IS WIN. Push the words into new sentences and the level changes on the spot: walls become passable, rocks become the player character, or the winning goal becomes something entirely different. More than 200 levels keep finding new ways to bend this simple idea, and the built-in level editor lets you create and share your own puzzles.

Key Features

  • Rules you can push – Word blocks on the map define how each level works
  • Over 200 levels – Puzzles that keep twisting the core mechanic
  • Award-winning design – IGF 2018 Excellence in Design and Best Student Game
  • Level editor – Build your own stages and play community creations
  • Relaxed pace – No timers, with unlimited undo and restart

PC Version and Compatibility

The key activates the Steam version, which runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Minimum requirements are modest: Windows 7, a 2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, Intel HD 3000 graphics or better and 200 MB of storage. The game supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish and many other languages. It is fully playable with keyboard, and partial controller support is included.

Global Activation & What You Receive

You receive a digital Steam key for the standard game. It is a Global key with no regional restriction, so it works on a Steam account in any country. In the Steam client choose Games → Activate a Product on Steam, enter the code and the game is added to your library permanently.

Why Buy This Game?

Baba Is You is one of the most original puzzle games of the last decade: every solution comes from noticing that a rule you took for granted can simply be rewritten. It rewards curious, patient players and works well in short sessions. The cute pixel art and calm music make it suitable for all ages, while the later worlds are genuinely tough brain-teasers.

Puzzles that teach their own language without a single tutorial line are what make The Witness such a natural follow-up, as its island of line panels slowly reveals rules you have to work out by observation. The same joy of changing the world with words drives Scribblenauts Unlimited, where you write nouns and adjectives to summon whatever object solves the problem in front of you. If you would rather bend physics than grammar, Q.U.B.E. 2 drops you into a first-person maze of coloured blocks that you extend, launch and redirect to reach the exit. And for a gentler pace with impossible geometry instead of rule blocks, Monument Valley 3 turns each stage into a small architectural illusion you rotate until a path appears.
