About Simpler Times
Simpler Times is a contemplative, cosy narrative game developed by Stoneskip and published by iam8bit Presents, released on 7 June 2024. You step into the shoes of Taina as she prepares to move out of her childhood home and begin the next chapter of her life. By reliving her memories, you learn how she grew into the creative, expressive person she has become, one small object and one quiet moment at a time.
Everything takes place in Taina’s childhood bedroom. Here you can listen to music, paint, watch nature, take photos, browse books, read notes and solve gentle puzzles, and each object has a story to tell. The game spans ten years with four different moments to explore, each portrayed in a different season, so the same room slowly changes as Taina grows up and her interests, posters and keepsakes shift around her.
There is no score, no timer, no combat, no failing and no anxiety. You explore each chapter at your own pace, and the subtle narration unfolds through careful observation and introspection. Music is the soulful centrepiece, as Taina relives her memories by spinning records on a turntable, with an exceptional lo-fi soundtrack by George Pandrea and lyrical poetry voiced by Maeve Kroeger.
The game runs on Windows 10 or newer and supports 9 interface languages, including English with full audio, German, French and Spanish. The minimum setup calls for a 2.66 GHz AMD or Intel processor, 4 GB of RAM, integrated graphics, DirectX 11 and 2 GB of storage. It is rated USK 0 and suits players who enjoy relaxing stories, warm visuals and music to unwind to.
