About Quake II

Quake II is the classic first-person shooter from id Software, first released in 1997 and now available in an enhanced edition created by id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames, published by Bethesda Softworks. Earth is under threat from the Strogg, a ruthless alien race of cybernetic creatures, and humanity strikes back by sending a force to their homeworld, Stroggos. You play a marine whose drop pod goes off course, leaving you alone behind enemy lines. To survive, you must fight through military bases, industrial complexes and grim alien facilities and hit the Strogg where it hurts most.

The enhanced edition keeps the fast, intense action and atmosphere of the original while bringing it up to modern standards. It adds widescreen support and resolutions of up to 4K, improved lighting and models, anti-aliasing and other visual improvements, along with updated controls and menus. Grey armoured Strogg soldiers, heavy cyborgs and other foes guard each level, and a powerful arsenal including the shotgun, the railgun and the BFG10K helps you clear your path. Mission objectives, keys and switches tie the levels together into connected units, so you move through Stroggos as one long, connected campaign.

This edition offers far more than the base game. It includes both original mission packs, The Reckoning and Ground Zero, which add new campaigns, weapons and enemies. It also contains Call of the Machine, a brand-new expansion made by MachineGames with 28 levels, as well as Quake II 64, the full 19-level campaign originally created for the Nintendo 64 console and now playable on PC. All of this content can be reached from one menu, which makes the enhanced edition the most complete way to experience the war against the Strogg and to see how different studios have expanded the world of Quake II over the years.

Tan base rooms, red-lit corridors and alien machinery create the hard sci-fi look of the series, while the soundtrack drives the action forward. The game is intended for adult players because of its intense violence, which fits its rating. The game supports English (with full audio), French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian and runs on Windows. Quake II is an excellent choice for fans of classic first-person shooters, for players who remember the original from the late 1990s and for anyone who wants to discover why this id Software game is still regarded as one of the most influential shooters ever made, now with a large amount of extra content.
