About Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power
Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is a fairytale platformer of action, puzzles and adventure developed by the Finnish studio Frozenbyte and released in 2015. It is the third chapter of the award-winning Trine series and reunites three familiar heroes: Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight and Zoya the Thief. For the first time the series moves from side-on 2.5D into full 3D, so the heroes can now run, jump and solve puzzles in depth as well as across the screen. The result is a gorgeous, gentle adventure through enchanted forests, ancient ruins and glittering castles.
The story begins when the three companions decide that being bound to the magical Trine artifact is a burden. They try to free themselves from its power, but the attempt cracks the artifact and unleashes chaos across the kingdom. To repair the damage, they must travel through strange lands, recover the scattered pieces and confront the danger they set loose. The narrative is told with warm humor and gentle banter between the heroes, and the tone stays friendly throughout, making it a fine choice for players of many ages who enjoy fantasy tales.
Each hero brings a different skill set. Amadeus conjures and levitates boxes to build bridges and stairs, Pontius blocks attacks with his shield and smashes enemies with his sword, and Zoya swings on her grappling rope and fires arrows at distant targets. You switch between them at any moment, combining their talents to solve physics-based puzzles built from planks, weights, levers and wonderful contraptions. Many problems have more than one solution, so creative experiments are rewarded. Combat against goblin-like creatures and large bosses is light and accessible, keeping the focus on exploration and clever thinking.
Trine 3 truly shines with friends. Up to three players can team up locally or online, each controlling a different hero, which turns every puzzle into a cheerful round of cooperation and occasional slapstick chaos. Alongside the main story, challenge levels test your skill and reward collectible Trineangles for unlocking more content. The painterly art and soothing music create a dreamy atmosphere.
