About Quern: Undying Thoughts

Quern: Undying Thoughts is a first-person puzzle adventure developed by Zadbox Entertainment and published with Blue Brain Games. Steam release date: 28 November 2016.

You wake on a strange island just as the portal behind you closes, leaving no way back. Quern asks you to explore domed buildings, overgrown paths and candlelit workshops, reading the notes of a previous visitor while you piece together why you were brought here. Its puzzles are built around reusable mechanics: machines, alchemy recipes and symbols you learn early come back later in new combinations, so the island feels like one large connected riddle rather than a list of separate challenges. Fully voiced narration and detailed scenery support a calm, thoughtful pace.

  • Interlinked puzzles – mechanics return in new forms.

Related Games

Quern openly draws on the tradition that Myst started, and the original island of linking books and silent machines is still the best way to see where this style of exploration began. The Witness shares the same quiet island setting but builds everything around line puzzles whose rules you learn without a single word of instruction. Those who want to stay in Cyan's universe can continue with Riven MS Store Key EU, a larger and stranger world of interlocking contraptions. And if the notes and atmosphere drew you in more than the riddles, Gone Home tells a moving story purely through objects and letters found while exploring a deserted family house.
