About Sublevel Zero Redux
Sublevel Zero Redux is a roguelite six-degree-of-freedom shooter developed and published by the British studio Sigtrap, first released on 8 October 2015. It is set in a universe where reality itself is falling apart. You pilot a small gunship through a vast underground facility, fighting in zero gravity to recover the technology you need to escape from the dangers hidden around every corner. The Redux version is the definitive form of the game and includes a large expansion that restructures the campaign, introduces new enemies, adds difficulty modes and brings new starting classes for your ship.
The defining feature is its freedom of movement. Your gunship can fly and rotate in every direction, so there is no fixed floor or ceiling, and you can attack from any angle while enemies do exactly the same. The design openly draws on classics such as Descent and Forsaken, combining their gravity-defying tunnel combat with modern looting and crafting. Learning to strafe, roll and reverse through tight corridors while keeping track of turrets and drones above and below you is what makes every encounter feel tense and physical.
Each run is a fresh challenge. There are no lives and no saves, and the facility is procedurally generated every time you start, so the layout, enemy placement and rewards change from attempt to attempt. Levels range from industrial zones to mining caverns, each with its own hazards that you need to read and adapt to quickly. Because a single mistake can end the run, every shot and every decision matters, which gives the game the classic roguelite rhythm of short, intense attempts that teach you something new each time you fail.
Progress comes through loot. Destroyed enemies and hidden caches drop a wide range of randomly generated weapons, upgrades and game-changing items. You combine components in a crafting system to build better guns, hulls and engines that suit your personal play style, whether that means heavy firepower, speed or durability. As you play you unlock more items and blueprints, and those unlocks carry over between playthroughs, so even an unsuccessful run brings you closer to a stronger loadout. Full controller support makes the six-axis controls comfortable to learn.
