Yomawari: Night Alone follows a young girl whose evening walk with her dog Poro ends in tragedy. When her older sister goes out into the night to look for the dog and does not return, the girl takes a flashlight and steps outside herself, only to find her quiet town changed beyond recognition. Seen from a top-down view, the streets, shrines, fields and cemeteries are now stalked by strange spirits drawn from Japanese folklore. You cannot fight them, so survival depends on hiding in bushes, timing your movements and running when your heartbeat warns that something is close. Along the way you pick up notes, coins and useful items that help you piece together what happened. The cute art style contrasts sharply with the tense atmosphere, creating a short but memorable horror story.
