About CRYPTARK

CRYPTARK is a 2D roguelike shooter developed and published by the Canadian studio Alientrap. It left Early Access and fully launched on Steam on 20 June 2017 for Windows, macOS and Linux.

You run a privateering outfit that boards derelict alien arks for profit. Each ship is procedurally generated and defended by cyborg creatures, robots and security systems, and the goal is always to reach and destroy its central System Core. Before each mission you scan the hulk, choose which defence systems to disable first and buy weapons and gear, with over 70 items including frag cannons, tractor beams, flamethrowers and nukes. Failing a mission costs your investment, so the campaign tests both shooting and planning, and leaderboards and co-op extend replay value.

Key Features

  • Procedural alien ships – every hull is different.
  • Tactical planning – scan and pick targets before boarding.
  • 70+ weapons and items – from flamethrowers to nukes.
  • Risk and reward – lose investment if you fail.
  • Co-op and leaderboards – compete for high scores.
