About Lightmatter
Lightmatter is a first-person puzzle game developed by Tunnel Vision Games and published by Aspyr in January 2020. The studio calls it a love letter to the genre, and the central rule is simple and deadly: shadows kill. You arrive as a visitor invited to the world debut of Lightmatter, a revolutionary energy source, and soon find yourself alone inside a vast facility where any step into darkness ends the attempt. Light becomes your only safe ground, and every room is a test of nerve and logic.
The tour is hosted by Virgil, the eccentric CEO of Lightmatter Technologies, voiced by fan favourite David Bateson. His dry, biting remarks follow you through the halls as he boasts about photon power cells, a glowing core meant to supply energy to millions, and his grand vision for the future. Behind the polished speeches lie unsettling questions about what that brighter tomorrow costs, and the story unfolds piece by piece as you push deeper into the complex and its secrets.
Puzzles revolve around lights, shadows, beams, platforms and lightmatter itself. You pick up and place lamps to carve safe paths across the floor, redirect beams, ride moving platforms and work out how each new mechanic combines with the last. The game describes itself as a version of the floor is lava, where lateral thinking matters more than speed. Careful observation of your surroundings is the key, and the satisfying moment when a solution clicks drives the whole experience forward.
It is a single player adventure that offers 23 achievements, cloud saves and partial controller support. It runs on Windows 10 and supports English and Danish with full audio, plus French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese. The minimum setup needs an Intel Core i3 4170 or AMD A8-7600, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 660 or AMD R9 270 and 6 GB of storage. The game holds a USK 12 rating and is ideal for players who enjoy first-person puzzles, clever light mechanics, dark humour and a mysterious corporate story with a memorable narrator.
