About Trolley Problem, Inc.
Trolley Problem, Inc. is a darkly comedic narrative game about the hardest questions in moral philosophy. It is developed by ReadGraves, the studio of Samuel Read-Graves, and published by Yogscast Games, and it was released on PC in April 2022. You join a cheerful corporation founded to help people travel safely across the nation, whose core values are listed as Responsibility, Integrity and Respect. Your training begins on a Monday, and things escalate quickly.
The opening scenario is the famous one. A runaway trolley races towards five people tied to the tracks, and you stand beside a lever that can switch it onto another line where one person waits. Do nothing and five die; pull the lever and only one dies, but by your hand. That is only the warm-up. Each new week at the company brings fresh dilemmas, from a suffering dog to a world where machines are taking over human jobs.
Every question is based on genuine philosophical papers, complete with references, so the game doubles as a light introduction to ethics. Many choices run on a countdown timer, which forces quick, gut-level decisions, and you always pick between two awful answers. A dry, fully voiced narrator challenges each decision you make, poking holes in your reasoning and keeping the tone sharp and funny even when the subject is grim.
After each choice you can see how your answers compare to those of players around the world, which often sparks lively discussion. The tightly wound story lasts about two hours, ideal for a single evening, and full Twitch integration lets a stream audience vote on decisions. The minimalist corporate interface and stark photographs give it a distinctive look. Trolley Problem, Inc. is rated 12.
