About Serious Sam's Bogus Detour

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is a top-down action shooter set in the Serious Sam universe, made by Crackshell, the studio behind Hammerwatch, together with Croteam and published by Devolver Digital. It launched on Steam on 20 June 2017.

Sam Stone fights his way through sunny Mediterranean towns, biological weapons labs and moon bases, mowing down huge waves of headless kamikazes and other familiar enemies. You can play the campaign alone or with up to three friends online, earning experience and picking perks as you level up. The flow is pure arcade chaos: big hordes, oversized weapons and a constant need to keep moving, now seen from above with sprite-based pixel art.

Key Features

  • Campaign – Play solo or in 2–4 player online co-op, with an experience and perk system
  • Versus – A mode with deathmatch and other rulesets for up to 12 players
  • Survival – Fight escalating waves, solo or with up to 12 players
  • Editor and mods – A built-in level editor plus Steam Workshop support for mods, new modes and total conversions
  • Steam features – Full controller support, Steam Achievements, Trading Cards and Cloud saves

PC Version and Compatibility

The key unlocks the Windows and Linux versions on Steam. Minimum requirements are Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core Duo class processor, 2 GB RAM and 500 MB of free space, so almost any PC runs it. The menus and subtitles come in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese, with full voice audio in English. Polish and Italian are not available.

Global Activation & What You Receive

You receive a digital Steam key for the standard game. It is a Global key with no regional restriction, so it works on a Steam account in any country. In the Steam client choose Games → Activate a Product on Steam, enter the code and the game is added to your library permanently.

Why Buy This Game?

If you want quick co-op sessions with friends rather than a long solo story, this is one of the most approachable Serious Sam games. It keeps the series' trademark hordes and humour, adds RPG-style perks for a sense of progression, and its editor and Workshop mods give it a life well beyond the campaign. Low system requirements and controller support also make it a good fit for laptops and couch play through Remote Play Together.

Related Games

Fans who want the same headless hordes from a first-person view should jump into Serious Sam 3: BFE, where Sam returns to Egypt with even bigger crowds and arenas. Heroes of Hammerwatch comes from the same Crackshell team and shares this game's top-down pixel combat, but leans further into dungeon-crawling and permanent upgrades for co-op groups. The studio's own Hammerwatch II opens the formula into a larger world with classes and quests while keeping the arcade feel. And for friendly-fire mayhem with up to four wizards, Magicka 2 delivers the same couch-and-online co-op chaos with spell combinations instead of miniguns.
