About Colt Canyon
Colt Canyon is a 2D pixel art roguelike shooter developed by Retrific and published by Headup, released in 2020. You take control of a cowboy, or one of many other unlockable characters, on a mission to save a kidnapped partner from ruthless bandits. Armed with a revolver and sticks of TNT, you shoot your way through a hostile canyon full of hidden treasures, weapons, obstacles and all kinds of bloodthirsty outlaws, in a setting that feels like a classic western.
Each run takes place in randomized, persistent and open levels, so no two trips through the canyon play the same way. You can approach a bandit camp with strategic stealth or charge in with fast-paced action, and the environments and enemies react dynamically to what you do. Along the way you may save more people than just your partner, and the rescued characters can join you as AI-controlled companions who fight at your side and can be upgraded together with your own character.
Finding your partner is only half of the job, because you also have to make it back home alive. Boss fights, permadeath and a high difficulty level keep the pressure on, but the design is skill-based and does not force any grind: you win by playing better, not by repeating levels for upgrades. A range of characters and weapons to unlock, endless runs and deep game mechanics give the game high replayability for players who want a game that is easy to learn and hard to master.
Colt Canyon supports local co-op, so a friend can join you on the same screen for the rescue mission. It offers excellent keyboard and mouse controls as well as full controller support, along with achievements and cloud saves in the GOG version, which runs on Windows.
