About Darkwater
Darkwater is an extraction horror game developed by Targon Studios and published by Playstack, released in March 2026. A devastating disease has struck an alien planet, and the government has frozen the surface of the ocean in response. You and your crew are trapped below the ice of this alien moon, in command of your own custom submarine. Every journey becomes a desperate bid for survival as you source fuel, travel from outpost to outpost and uncover snippets of information relating to a greater truth. You can play solo or enlist a crew of up to four submariners who face the deep-sea threats together.
Resources are scarce, so you dock your vessel at dilapidated underwater facilities and explore them on foot, stripping them for all they are worth. Be prepared to deal with what lurks below: infected divers, deep-sea angler fish and alien crabs are among the unpredictable enemies waiting in the dark. You even the odds with a wide range of weaponry, from sledgehammers and blow torches to pistols and shotguns. Space on board is limited, so planning matters, and you must make sure there is enough room to carry back the fuel canisters critical to your survival. Teamwork is key to living to see another day.
Back on the submarine you take direct control of the onboard systems for piloting, weapons and sonar. Naval warfare against enemy submarines is a constant danger, and you fight back with powerful torpedoes, harpoons, decoy mines and depth charges to gain the upper hand in sub-to-sub combat. For the boldest approach you can board enemy vessels using a manned torpedo and deliver the ultimate in-person surprise. Sonar readings also trigger tense events, such as discovering the remnants of two wrecked submarines on the ocean floor and deciding whether to leave them alone or salvage what remains.
Between dives you upgrade your submarine to match your plans. You expand the deck, invest in different cabins and unlock unique rooms that help with hacking, stealth and other strategic options. Rival vessels are open to negotiation, but you should always be ready for war. The game asks you to plan and strategize every step of the way as you fight against the relentless adversity of a desperate world. The atmosphere is tense and claustrophobic, lit by flickering lamps and the green glow of instruments.
