About The Suicide of Rachel Foster

The Suicide of Rachel Foster is a first-person mystery adventure developed by ONE-O-ONE GAMES and published by Daedalic Entertainment, released for Windows on 19 February 2020. The story takes place in 1993 in Lewis and Clark County, Montana. Ten years earlier, a teenage Nicole and her mother left the family hotel after a painful discovery, and the tragedy of a girl named Rachel has hung over the place ever since.

Now that both of her parents have passed away, Nicole hopes to fulfil her mother’s last will by selling the hotel and making amends to Rachel’s relatives. Determined to put that chapter of her life behind her, she returns to the large mountain lodge with the family lawyer’s instructions to audit the decaying building. What should be a short visit quickly becomes something far more personal and unsettling.

As the weather unexpectedly turns for the worse, a heavy snowstorm leaves Nicole with no way to leave. Her only support is Irving, a young FEMA agent who talks to her through one of the first radio telephones ever built. Their conversations carry the whole story, and his calm voice becomes a lifeline while she wanders the empty corridors, rooms and offices of the old building alone.

With Irving’s help, Nicole starts to investigate a mystery far deeper than what people in the valley ever thought. You examine documents, old photographs, notes and objects scattered around the hotel, piecing together what really happened a decade ago. The game describes itself as a story of love and death, where melancholy and nostalgia melt into a thrilling ghost tale that builds tension slowly.

The hotel itself is the star of the experience. It is vast and detailed, with guest rooms, a bar and lounge, staff areas and hidden corners that change in mood as the days pass. Exploring it carefully reveals dark secrets of the family’s past, and the sense of isolation grows stronger as the snow keeps falling outside and the building creaks around you at night.

Sound plays a huge role in building the atmosphere. Binaural audio makes footsteps, wind, distant noises and every voice on the phone feel remarkably close, so playing with headphones is strongly recommended. The intriguing, touching and mature narrative is paced like a quiet thriller, relying on mood, dialogue and discovery to keep you on edge until the very end of Nicole’s stay.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster runs on 64-bit Windows 8.1 or 10 with an Intel Core i5-2500 or Ryzen 3 2200G, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon RX 540, DirectX 11 and 10 GB of storage, and offers full controller support.
