About Pentiment

Pentiment is Obsidian Entertainment’s historical narrative adventure, published by Xbox Game Studios. You play Andreas Maler, an illustrator working in early-16th-century Tassing and nearby Kiersau Abbey, where murders, rumours and church politics pull him into the town’s secrets.

Investigation is the core loop. You pick academic and social backgrounds that change how people answer you, then walk the streets, abbey rooms and workshops collecting testimony. Each conclusion you draw stays with the community as years pass and the same faces age around your choices.

The world is drawn like a moving manuscript: woodcut textures, painted figures and lettering that shifts with a speaker’s education. There is no voice-over. Dialogue appears as written script, so reading, note-taking and judging tone are the work of play.

Sessions feel like sitting with a chronicle while combat stays off the table. You spend time listening, comparing stories and living with a judgement you cannot fully take back. The game suits players who want a single-player mystery told through conversation, history and illustration.
