About Spells & Secrets
Spells & Secrets is a rogue-lite action adventure developed by the German studio Alchemist Interactive and published by rokaplay in 2023. You play a first-year student of the magic arts who arrives at the Academy of Greifenstein, an impressive castle school set in a world much like our own. The excitement of starting a new life among classmates and professors does not last long: a strange incident on the very first day throws the academy into chaos. Magical creatures roam the halls, students have gone missing, and the castle itself has begun to shift and rearrange its corridors. It is up to you to set things right.
The castle of Greifenstein changes with every attempt, so each run leads through different rooms, corridors and challenges. Your spells are the main tool, and the game encourages you to use them creatively. A fire spell can defeat enemies but also burn away obstacles, while other spells move objects, freeze surfaces or reveal hidden paths. Many rooms are small puzzles where the right combination of magic opens the way forward. When a run ends, you keep part of your progress and return stronger, unlocking permanent upgrades that make the next attempt deeper and more rewarding.
Exploration pays off. While searching the school grounds you discover clues about the world and its inhabitants, find powerful artifacts that change how your character plays, and collect potions that help in difficult moments. Rescuing lost classmates is part of the story, and each saved student adds to the life of the academy. The tone stays friendly and mysterious, with colorful visuals and light fantasy combat, which makes it a good introduction to the rogue-lite genre for players who usually find it too punishing. Controls are tuned for both gamepad and mouse with keyboard.
