About Aliens: Colonial Marines

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a first person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and published by SEGA for Windows PC, released in February 2013. Designed as a sequel to the classic Aliens film, it sends a fresh squad of United States Colonial Marines to investigate the fate of Ripley, Hicks and the crew of the Sulaco after the events on LV-426.

The story begins when the Sulaco reappears in orbit above LV-426 months after it was thought lost. A rescue team boards the ship and finds it overrun by Xenomorphs, along with evidence that the Weyland-Yutani corporation has its own plans for the creatures. From there the mission spreads to the ruins of Hadley’s Hope and other locations taken straight from the films.

Combat leans on the classic Marine arsenal. The M41A pulse rifle with its grenade launcher, the smart gun, shotguns and flamethrowers all feature, and the motion tracker with its familiar beeping is a key tool for sensing threats that move through vents, ceilings and dark corridors before they strike.

Xenomorphs come in several types, from fast drones and acid spitting soldiers to heavily armoured crushers and boilers that explode on contact. Weyland-Yutani mercenaries add human opponents who use cover and tactics, so encounters alternate between tense close range horror and more traditional firefights.

The full campaign can be played solo or together with up to three other players, who can drop in and out of missions at any time. Separate competitive modes put teams of Marines against teams of Xenomorphs, letting you experience the hunt from both sides with distinct abilities for each.

An experience system rewards everything you do with ranks that unlock new weapons, attachments, perks and appearance options. Loadouts can be tuned to suit your preferred style, whether that means a long range rifle build or a close quarters setup for clearing tight corridors.

The minimum requirements are modest: Windows XP SP3 or later, a 2 GHz Intel dual core processor, 2 GB of RAM, a GeForce 8500 or Radeon HD 2600 and 20 GB of storage. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a fitting choice for players who want to step into the world of the films and face the Xenomorph threat with a squad behind them.
