About BIOMORPH
BIOMORPH is a dark metroidvania developed and published by the independent Lucid Dreams Studio and released for Windows PC on 5 April 2024. Its central idea is simple and memorable: you become the creatures that you kill. Every monster you defeat can be absorbed, and its shape becomes a tool for fighting, solving puzzles and reaching places that seemed impossible to access earlier in the adventure.
The world is hand drawn and packed with detail, from sunlit ruins and floating rocks to overgrown villages and smoky industrial districts. You explore a vast, varied land that once belonged to a sprawling civilisation which has now fallen. Along the way you meet quirky characters, uncover what happened to their society and slowly learn surprising and alarming truths about the mysterious origins of the hero you control.
Taking the shape of an enemy grants its skills. You can use those powers to fight other monsters or to move through uncharted territories, for example by squeezing into new paths or crossing dangerous gaps. Every conquered creature can come back stronger, though, and the challenging artificial intelligence means previously mimicked foes unlock new powers of their own, so revisiting older areas keeps producing fresh encounters.
Combat gives you plenty of freedom. An arsenal of melee and ranged weapons lets you bash and shoot enemies, and each weapon has its own upgrade tree. You can equip and mix unique skills, upgrade them and create different builds that suit your preferred style. As you fight through the large areas around the city, your character levels up and collects new abilities, mementos and chips.
The map is nonlinear and interconnected, composed of many different environments. It hides optional boss fights, eccentric residents, tons of secrets and upgrades that reward the most daring explorer. Puzzles and platforming challenges are spread throughout, asking you to think about which creature form fits each obstacle. Adjustable difficulty and full controller support make it easier to tune the experience to your own pace.
At the heart of the journey lies the city of Blightmoor. You help rebuild it, get to know its inhabitants and learn about their daily life and the history of the town. The look of the city can be customised, so returning there between expeditions becomes a small reward in itself. Watching the streets grow livelier gives a pleasant contrast to the dark and dangerous lands outside its walls.
The game runs on Windows 10 64-bit with 4 GB of RAM, a DirectX 10 graphics card and just 4 GB of storage, so it suits most modern computers. Cloud saves and achievements are included as well. BIOMORPH is an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys exploration heavy action platformers with inventive abilities, a striking art style and a mystery that unfolds piece by piece.
