Crash Time 3 is an action racing game from the German studio Synetic, published by Kalypso Media Digital and released for PC on 25 November 2009. It is the third instalment of the series built around high speed police pursuits on public roads. Synetic took its graphics engine a significant step further for this entry, creating a large and detailed city that can be explored entirely on wheels, with fast chases and explosive crashes at every turn.

The story mode has been completely reworked. Right from the start you learn about the destructive power of a terrorist organisation that crosses the path of the heroes again and again. At first the crimes seem to have no connection at all. As the game progresses, you uncover more details and information about the series of incidents, until everything comes together and is resolved in a grand finale that ties the whole story together.

The campaign contains more than 70 missions with many different challenges. Criminals try to escape capture with all kinds of tricks and driving stunts, and you have to stop them before they disappear into the traffic. The scope of action has also been extended. You interview informants, collect information and decide how to approach each mission, whether you simply stop an opponent by ramming the car or find another way to reach the objective.

The game world covers 32 square kilometres, with more than 200 kilometres of city streets and autobahn to drive around by day and by night. Wide motorways allow extremely fast pursuits, while narrow inner city roads demand careful handling between buildings, junctions and other traffic. The changing time of day alters the mood of the city, from bright sunny afternoons with blue skies to dark streets lit by headlights and burning wrecks.

More than 40 vehicles are available, ranging from police cars and sports cars to airport fire engines and even tricycles. A state of the art physics system offers a more realistic driving experience than earlier parts of the series, and every collision can turn into a spectacular crash. Cars flip through the air, crumple against walls and burst into flames, keeping the typical explosive ambience of the series that its players have always enjoyed.

An improved pathfinding system makes the escaping criminals smarter. The artificial intelligence calculates the shortest routes automatically and adapts the vehicle performance to the road conditions, so a getaway driver can choose a different path every time. This dynamic behaviour creates variation and increases the replay value. After each mission, a detailed score card lists the status of the mission, the efficiency of your approach and your overall results.

Crash Time 3 runs on Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista with Service Pack 1, and it needs an Athlon 64 3200+ or Pentium 4 at 3.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and a 256 MB graphics card. That makes it suitable for older computers, as long as they have a dedicated graphics card.
