About FlatOut 2

FlatOut 2 is an arcade off-road racing game developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by Strategy First, originally released in 2006. It builds on the first FlatOut with an enhanced version of its physics engine and faster track designs, and it puts destruction at the heart of every race. Fences shatter, tyre walls explode, and water tanks and barrels fly across the track into other cars, so each lap becomes a little more chaotic than the last.

Every track contains more than five thousand destructible objects, and every car has forty deformable parts, so collisions leave visible marks on both the scenery and the vehicles. When a crash is big enough, the driver can be thrown through the windscreen, a rag-doll effect that also powers the game's party events. There are thirty-four vehicles in three classes, from battered stock cars to faster racing machines, and sixty track combinations across a variety of environments.

Compared with the first game, FlatOut 2 doubles the number of vehicles and tracks, adds a more developed career mode and offers twice as many mini-games. Twelve rag-doll mini-games turn the driver into a projectile for stunts and events, while destruction derby arenas reward pure demolition. In career mode you win races, earn money and upgrade your cars to keep up with aggressive opponents. A licensed soundtrack with artists such as Rob Zombie, Papa Roach and Fall Out Boy completes the package.

The GOG version runs on Windows and Linux, offers cloud saves, and includes English, German, Spanish, French and Italian with audio and text. The original servers are no longer running, but multiplayer over LAN is still available for local races with friends. For players who want fast, physics-driven racing where crashing is as much fun as winning, FlatOut 2 remains one of the most entertaining destruction racers of its era.
