About Slipstream
Slipstream is a racing game by the independent developer ansdor, released in May 2018 and inspired by the visuals, music, games and cars of the late 80s and early 90s. It runs on a custom game engine with an authentic retro feel and unique graphics, built as a pseudo-3D engine with 2D graphics, just like the glory days of the arcade racers. The soundtrack draws from synthpop and jazz fusion and sets the tone for a race across exotic locations from all around the world, including cities, deserts, forests, mountains and beaches.
Drifting and slipstreaming mechanics add depth to the driving, and the result is a challenging and exciting experience. Slipstream offers 20 different tracks set in a variety of exotic locations around the world and beyond, along with 5 car models, each with its own specs and playstyle. There are 6 game modes. Grand Tour is a road trip through exotic landscapes with branching paths and rivals to race against. Cannonball is a freely customisable race with optional traffic, rivals and other racers. Grand Prix is a championship of five races back to back, with money prizes used to upgrade your car.
The remaining modes round out the package. Single Race lets you pick any of the 20 tracks, Time Trial is a solo race against the clock, and Battle Royale is an elimination endurance race. Friends can join on the same screen, because Slipstream supports split screen racing for up to 4 players. The original soundtrack features 9 exclusive songs, and you can add your own music too. A range of graphical options lets you tune the look, including a 30fps mode and CRT and NTSC filters. The screenshots show the variety, from a teal coupe on a beach road at sunset to a white coupe drifting through a neon city at night.
Slipstream offers full controller support with a gamepad recommended, 29 achievements, leaderboards, cloud saves, a level editor and Workshop support for community content. It runs on Windows 7 (64-bit) and supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Greek and Russian.
