About Creaks

Creaks is a hand-drawn puzzle adventure developed and published by Amanita Design. Steam release date: 22 July 2020.

When the walls of his room start to shake, a young man discovers a passage into a huge, crumbling mansion inhabited by gentle bird-like folk and menacing creatures. The twist is that every monster is really a piece of furniture that only moves in darkness, so flipping a light switch can turn a snarling dog back into a harmless cupboard. Each room is a clever puzzle about light, shadow and timing, framed by Amanita's detailed hand-painted art and a soundtrack by Hidden Orchestra. There is no combat, just thinking and a touch of unease.

Related Games

Creaks comes from the same Czech studio as Machinarium, and you can feel the family resemblance in the way a rusty robot city is solved one charming, wordless screen at a time. Botanicula is Amanita at its gentlest, a leafy adventure with no fail states that pairs well with Creaks' quieter moments. If the hand-built worlds are what hooked you, Samorost 3 goes even further with its handcrafted scenery and playful sound design. And for the creeping sense that the furniture might move when you look away, Little Nightmares offers a darker, more cinematic take on sneaking through a hostile house.
