About Distant Space

Distant Space is an arcade space shooter from the small studio PixelMouse, which developed and published it in December 2016. It is built as a tribute to the cosmic battles of eighties arcade cabinets: you take control of a lone spaceship at the bottom of the screen and must destroy waves of extraterrestrials that move across the field in a set order. The goal is easy to understand within seconds, yet clearing every wave cleanly asks for steady aim, good timing and a little patience.

The game is split into 26 unique levels, so progress comes in short, satisfying steps. Each stage brings its own arrangement of alien ships, and the formations shift and drift as you thin them out, which means the safest firing position keeps changing. Between the regular waves you face bosses, larger enemies that soak up far more damage and push you to keep moving while you chip away at them. Energy bars along the top of the screen keep you informed about how close you are to losing a ship.

Visually, Distant Space keeps things clean and minimal. Small green alien craft stand out sharply against a dark blue grid, and the restrained palette makes incoming shots easy to read even when the field gets crowded. The silver title logo and the simple interface underline the retro spirit, while the music is written in the style of that era, with catchy electronic tunes that suit a quick session after work as well as a longer attempt to reach the final stage.

Because the design is so focused, the game suits short breaks and repeat attempts, letting you improve a little with each run as you learn how the formations behave. It runs on Windows, needs very modest hardware and offers its interface in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Korean, Chinese and many more, 23 interface languages in total. For anyone who grew up with classic cabinet shooters, or who simply wants a straightforward test of reflexes and positioning without long tutorials or complex menus, it delivers a compact, nostalgic challenge at a very gentle price.
