About Hoa
Hoa is a puzzle platformer from Skrollcat Studio, a small independent team from Vietnam, published by PM Studios. It was released in August 2021 and is known for its breathtaking hand-painted art, its emotional live-recorded music and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere that invites you to slow down and simply enjoy each scene.
You play Hoa, a tiny fairy-like girl who returns to a world she once knew, travelling through lush forests, glowing caves and rusty mechanical halls on her journey back to where it all began. The story is told with very few words. Small gestures, music and the changing landscapes carry the emotion, and the meaning of the journey gradually unfolds as you progress.
Gameplay focuses on gentle platforming and exploration-based puzzles. Hoa can jump, glide and later gain new abilities that open the way forward, and many areas ask you to read the environment carefully to find the right route. Along the way you meet lovely magical creatures, from shy insects to towering guardians; most of them want to be friends, and some share a little story or two.
The world feels like a living painting. Every backdrop is meticulously drawn by hand, light filters through leaves and water, and the orchestral score changes with each region. There is no stressful combat, so the experience suits younger players, families and anyone looking for a calm evening with a beautiful game. It is rated 12 for very mild fantasy action.
