About Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword

Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword is a standalone expansion for the Mount & Blade series, developed and published by TaleWorlds Entertainment and released on 3 May 2011. It moves the series' famous mounted combat into seventeenth-century Eastern Europe, a turbulent era of Cossack uprisings, Polish-Lithuanian hussars, Muscovite armies, Swedish soldiers and the Crimean Khanate. The story draws on the cult novel With Fire and Sword by Nobel Prize-winning author Henryk Sienkiewicz, and the setting was carefully researched to give every army and town a believable historical identity.

The game is an open sandbox. You begin as a lone adventurer with a horse and a few coins, then choose your allies and enemies, which provinces to conquer, which castles to besiege and which quests to accept. Three main story-driven quest lines open once you become known in a faction, and multiple endings make each campaign different. Political intrigue, colourful factions and additional quest types give the land plenty of adventure between the large battles.

Combat builds on the highly regarded physics-based system of the earlier games, where speed, angle and timing decide every blow. Firearms change the battlefield: pistols, muskets and grenades sit beside sabres and lances, and pistols can even be used as sidearms in close combat. You can fully customise your army, equipping each soldier with weapons and armour, recruit mercenaries, and choose new siege options before attacking a town or castle.

Multiplayer adds ferocious online battles that pit old weapons against the rising power of gunpowder, including the original Captain mode, in which each player commands a small squad of bots. New maps support team deathmatch and other modes. The game contains realistic violence with blood and is rated 16 (Germany USK 12, PEGI 16).
