About Old World

Old World is a historical turn-based strategy game developed by Mohawk Games, the studio founded by veteran strategy designer Soren Johnson, and published by Hooded Horse. Its current PC release dates from 18 May 2022, and it is set in the ancient Mediterranean and Near East.

You lead one of several great nations such as Rome, Carthage, Egypt, Greece, Persia, Assyria or Babylonia and guide it across centuries. Cities grow on a hex map, borders expand, and wonders, laws and religions shape the identity of your realm over a long campaign.

What sets the game apart is its focus on people. Your ruler is a character with traits, opinions and a limited lifespan, and when that ruler dies an heir takes over, so the empire keeps going through generations of kings and queens with very different strengths.

Every action costs orders, a shared resource spent on moving units, founding cities, building improvements and handling diplomacy. This system lets a single unit act several times in one turn when needed and forces careful decisions about where your attention matters most.

Each nation is home to four noble families that run its cities and expect favours in return. Marriages, appointments and events affect their loyalty, while governors, generals, spymasters and tutors are drawn from your court and gain experience as they serve.

Thousands of narrative events respond to the state of your realm, from births and rivalries to plagues, betrayals and unexpected opportunities. Ambitions give each leader personal goals, and the world map offers rivers, mountains, volcanoes and coasts that make every campaign look different.

Old World is a rewarding choice for players who enjoy deep turn-based strategy, characterful historical settings and campaigns in which personal drama matters as much as armies and economy.
