About Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad with Rising Storm
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad with Rising Storm is a tactical first person shooter developed and published by Tripwire Interactive, first released on 13 September 2011 for Windows PC. This package combines the original Stalingrad game with the full Rising Storm content, which carries the fighting from the Eastern Front to the Pacific theatre. Together they offer a demanding, authentic picture of infantry and armoured combat in the Second World War, built around realism, teamwork and careful tactics.
The core of Heroes of Stalingrad is the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Soviet, from July 1942 to February 1943. You can follow the German army as it assaults the city and pushes towards the banks of the Volga, or follow the Soviet army as it holds the city against all odds before turning the tide. Far removed from the familiar Normandy setting, the scenarios focus on one of the most brutal battles in human history.
Rising Storm extends the experience to the Pacific, where United States Marines face the Imperial Japanese Army across island battlefields. Each side brings its own weapons and tactics, giving the battles a very different rhythm from the snowy ruins of Stalingrad. Dense vegetation, beaches and fortified positions create new challenges, and the change of theatre adds plenty of variety to a package that already offers a large selection of maps and ways to fight.
The game is played in team battles against other people over an internet connection, with modes such as Firefight, a team deathmatch variant, Countdown, which redefines single-life play, and Territory, where both sides fight over objectives across a map. Matches range from quick and brutal firefights to more intricate tactical engagements, so coordination, communication and patience are just as important as fast reflexes, and every round tells a slightly different story.
Weapons are a major highlight. True-to-life ballistics, bullet penetration, breathing, adjustable sights, free aim and weapon bracing make every shot feel authentic and reward careful aiming. A first person cover system lets you peek or blind fire over and around obstacles, while the morale system shows how important a soldier's state of mind can be. Suppressing your enemies with sustained fire gives your side a real advantage and can turn the course of a fight.
Armoured combat is just as detailed. You can fight inside tanks with fully modelled three-dimensional interiors, an AI crew and advanced armour and damage systems, creating a tanking experience that feels heavy and dangerous. Persistent stats and player progression give you long-term goals as you grow in rank, earn achievements and improve your abilities. The best players can reach hero status, which grants access to rare weapons and inspires nearby troops while unsettling the enemy.
Built on an enhanced version of Unreal Engine 3, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad with Rising Storm runs on Windows XP, Vista or 7 with a 2.3 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 23 GB of free space. Full audio is available in English, German, Russian and Polish. For anyone who enjoys authentic military shooters that reward teamwork and patience, it remains one of the most intense and atmospheric Second World War experiences available.
