About Viscera Cleanup Detail

Viscera Cleanup Detail is a cleaning simulator developed and published by RuneStorm, fully released on 23 October 2015 for Windows. You play a humble space-station janitor arriving after the action is over. An alien invasion and a heroic battle have reduced the facility to a horrifying mess, and while the hero gets the glory, somebody has to deal with the aftermath. That somebody is you, armed with a mop, a bucket and a strong stomach.

The work is methodical and strangely relaxing. You mop up blood and grime, collect debris, bullet casings and the remains of the fallen, and toss everything into the incinerator. Buckets must be emptied and refilled, dispensers provide fresh supplies, and bins need to be carried carefully. Once a level is clean, you punch out and receive a performance report from your employer, judging exactly how thorough your shift really was.

A proper set of tools makes the job possible. Gloves protect your hands while handling grisly remains, the plasma laser removes scorch marks from walls and floors, and the sniffer tool helps locate the last hidden stains. Some levels also require tasks such as stacking crates, repairing equipment or resetting doors, so every facility has its own checklist beyond simply washing floors.

Everything obeys sandbox physics, which is both the joy and the danger of the job. Kick a full bucket and the dirty water spreads across your freshly cleaned floor; drop a body part on the wrong surface and you leave a new trail. Patience and planning pay off, and the satisfaction of seeing a ruined hall gleaming again is what keeps players coming back for one more shift.

Variety comes from many distinct locations, including greenhouse halls, scorched corridors, laboratories and mine tunnels, each with its own hazards and darkly humorous details. Saving lets you split long jobs across several sessions, and split-screen play is supported for those who share a screen. The game is full of small surprises left behind by the unseen hero, from strange devices to grim jokes.

Creativity is part of the package too. A level editor allows you to build your own facilities and messes, and Workshop support makes it easy to share them or download creations by others. The cleanup spin-offs Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior and Viscera Cleanup Detail: Santa’s Rampage are included at no extra cost, adding a ninja-themed mess and a festive disaster to tidy up.

Viscera Cleanup Detail runs on Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7 with a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce 8800 GT or Radeon HD 3870 and 5 GB of storage, and it is available in English only. For anyone who loves turning chaos into order, enjoys darkly comic settings and finds peace in a slow, careful routine, it remains a unique and satisfying simulator with plenty of content.
