About Ozymandias: Bronze Age Empire Sim
Ozymandias: Bronze Age Empire Sim is a streamlined 4X strategy game developed by The Secret Games Company and published by Goblinz Publishing together with IndieArk. Released on 11 October 2022 for Windows and macOS, it takes the explore, expand, exploit and exterminate formula back to the dawn of history and trims it down to its essential decisions.
You lead one of 52 historical empires of the Bronze Age, from Mycenae and Egypt to Babylon, the Hittites and many lesser-known realms. Each one brings its own traits and starting position on maps that recreate the ancient Mediterranean, the Fertile Crescent and other cradles of early states, eight maps in total.
The heart of the design is a single opportunity per turn. Without managing dozens of cities and queues, you simply pick one growth option each turn: expand into a new province, raise an army, improve a region, research a technology or begin a wonder. That restraint makes each choice feel weighty and keeps the pace brisk from the first move.
Warfare relies on a clear Power system. Armies gather strength across provinces, and battles are resolved by comparing Power with terrain and technology bonuses, with no fiddly tactical screens. Border tension, alliances of convenience and well-timed strikes matter far more than piling up units, so even small empires can stay dangerous.
Victory conditions are drawn at random for each match, so one game may reward conquest while another favours wonders, wealth or territorial growth. A story campaign inspired by the explorer and archaeologist Gertrude Bell introduces the mechanics step by step, while the tech table and the wonders book add long-term goals to plan around.
Matches usually last an hour or less, which makes Ozymandias ideal for anyone who loves grand strategy but rarely has a free weekend. A simultaneous-turn mode for matches against other players is also included, and the clean board-game look with hex maps and bronze tones keeps the information easy to read at a glance.
Ozymandias: Bronze Age Empire Sim suits strategy players who want the satisfaction of guiding an ancient empire through expansion, rivalry and monument building without endless micromanagement. Its compact rules, historical flavour and changing goals make it easy to start a quick match and surprisingly hard to stop after just one more turn.
