About The Battle of Polytopia

The Battle of Polytopia is a unique turn-based strategy game developed and published by Midjiwan AB, released on 4 August 2020. It is set in the strange, flat world of the Square, the bizarre home planet of the Polytopians, a square-shaped landmass drifting in the space of an alternate dimension. Strange lands, charismatic tribes, clever technologies and captivating magic all lead to one ultimate goal: to rule the world.

The Polytopians are 16 individual tribes spread across the Square, each with their own characteristics, motivations, strengths and weaknesses. You take the role of the ruler of one of these tribes and build your civilization in competition with the others. Lead the Xin-Xi, reserved traditionalists wary of outsiders, or the Hoodrick, who love archery, nature and mushrooms and are famed for their baked goods. The Bardur gather in their local tavern, while the Vengir ride purple rhino-pigs.

Each match is about expanding your empire, researching technologies and outmanoeuvring rival tribes. You capture villages to grow new cities, gather resources from forests, fields and seas, and unlock a tech tree that opens new units, buildings and paths to victory. Maps are compact and turns are quick, so a full game fits into a short session while still offering plenty of strategic depth and replay value across tribes and map types.

You can play alone against computer rivals or face other rulers in matches for up to 16 players, including shared-screen games and cross-platform play with turn notifications. The colourful low-poly style runs smoothly on very modest hardware, and the game supports Windows, macOS and Linux with achievements and trading cards. The Battle of Polytopia is rated USK 12.
