About The I of the Dragon

The I of the Dragon is a fantasy action game with strategy and role-playing elements, created by Primal Software and published by TopWare Interactive. Originally released in 2002, it returned in a re-released edition on 6 March 2015 for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is set in Nimoa, a world as beautiful as the morning dew at first glance. Beneath its hills and fertile valleys, however, lurks an old and eternal evil that spreads like a mould, stretching its threads through infected lands like deadly toadstools.

At the centre of this corruption, deep in the underworld, waits the giant daemon Skarborr. You take the role of a young, inexperienced dragon who must become the saviour of Nimoa. At the start you choose one of three dragons: Annoth the Fire Breather, Barroth the Magician or Morrogh the Necromancer. Each has its own element, based on fire, ice or acid, and each deals with the many adversaries in a different way. As you progress you shape your dragon into a battle, wizard or sniper dragon, growing stronger to face ever tougher enemies.

Your task goes beyond hunting monsters from the sky. Across 12 enormous territories, including mountains, deserts, forests and savanna, each covering more than ten square kilometres, you also have to build, maintain and defend human settlements. People grow in number and supply you with resources, so protecting them is essential to victory. Some missions put you in control of other characters too: a warlord and his steed on a dangerous scouting mission, a skilled hunter tasked with precise and selective kills, and three huge creatures with riders sent to destroy the magical generators keeping the dragons away.

More than 60 spells with special effects are available to each dragon. Real-time terraforming lets whole mountain ranges disappear and rise again in another place, reshaping the battlefield. Static and real-time lighting create a full day and night cycle, with impressive sunrises, colourful but ominous sunsets and a night sky full of stars. A time control option lets you set the pace of the game, and a slow-motion mode adds dramatic effect to aerial combat. The game is rated 18 (ESRB M, Mature 17+).
