About Torchlight II
Torchlight II is a fast-paced action RPG developed by Runic Games, a Seattle studio founded by veterans of classic dungeon crawlers. It was released on 20 September 2012 and expands the formula of the first game with a much larger world, more classes and full cooperative play. The story takes place years after the original adventure. The Alchemist, once a hero, has been corrupted by the power of an ancient evil and is now destroying the Guardians that keep the world in balance. You set out to stop him across three acts full of monsters, dungeons and treasure.
You choose between four classes, each available as a male or female hero. The Engineer fights with heavy weapons and steam-powered gadgets, the Berserker strikes fast with claws and the spirits of wild beasts, the Embermage commands fire, ice and lightning, and the Outlander combines ranged weapons with glaives and dark magic. Each class has three skill trees, and you can freely mix active skills and passive bonuses. You are also joined by a loyal pet, such as a dog, cat, ferret or panther, which fights by your side, carries loot and can travel back to town to sell items for you.
The world is huge and varied, from snowy steppes and lush jungles to scorching deserts and dark mines. Outdoor areas are randomly arranged and full of side quests, hidden caves and optional bosses, while the dungeons beneath them hold elite monsters and rare loot. A day and night cycle and changing weather make every region feel alive. Combat is quick and satisfying, with large groups of enemies, powerful skill effects and a steady stream of weapons, armour, gems and enchantments to collect, so you are always looking forward to the next upgrade.
You can play the entire campaign alone or team up with up to six players in online or LAN co-op, and the game scales its difficulty to the size of the group. After finishing the story, New Game Plus and the Mapworks let you keep improving your hero in harder content. Hardcore mode makes death permanent for those who want extra tension. Torchlight II is also famous for its strong modding community, and the included editor lets players build new classes, items and whole adventures. Its colourful, hand-painted style keeps the game easy on modest hardware.
