About Against the Storm
Against the Storm is a dark fantasy roguelite city builder developed by Eremite Games and published by Hooded Horse in December 2023. You are the Viceroy, a leader charged by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and discover lost riches for the Smoldering City, civilization's last bastion against the Blightstorm that destroyed the old world. Your task is to rebuild civilization in the face of apocalyptic rains.
Survival city builders often focus on a single city, but here you build a vast, prosperous network of settlements populated by diverse fantasy races, each with their own specializations and needs. Foxes, beavers and lizards stand alongside humans and harpies in the struggle to survive. You balance their housing, culinary preferences, taste in luxuries and recreation, and decide whether to manufacture raincoats, brew ale and bake pies to boost morale or prioritize one species to work more swiftly for the Queen.
The wilderness holds many hidden dangers, and never-ending storms batter your population. If a settlement falls, the expedition may end but the game goes on, because you carry forward resources, upgrades and experience into each new journey. With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and six distinct biomes, every city location presents unique challenges, while the Trader brings new wares each year and the forest hides treasures, resources and ancient threats. Recurring Blightstorms keep the pressure on as you manage your reputation and move on to found the next settlement.
