About Warpips
Warpips is a tug-of-war strategy game developed by the small studio Skirmish Mode Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment. After a period in early access, the full version was released on 21 April 2022. The idea is simple to grasp: two bases face each other across a battlefield, and units flow forward from both sides. Your goal is to push the front line all the way to the enemy headquarters and destroy it before the opposing army reaches yours.
The army is built from a wide roster of modern units. Riflemen and grenadiers hold the line, jeeps and armoured cars race ahead, tanks break through fortified positions, and helicopters and jets strike from above. Every unit has a cost and a clear role, and many of them are strong against one type of enemy and weak against another. Reading the battlefield and answering an enemy tank push with the right counter is at the heart of every match.
Warpips deliberately avoids micromanagement. You do not steer individual soldiers or draw paths for vehicles. Instead you decide what to deploy and when, and the troops advance, take cover behind walls and sandbags and respond to threats on their own. On top of that you can call down support powers such as artillery barrages, missile strikes and airstrikes. Timing these powers well can turn a stalled front into a sudden breakthrough.
The campaign takes you across a map of islands, deserts and coastlines, with battles that are randomly generated and different each time. A typical round lasts between ten and twenty minutes, which makes the game easy to pick up for a quick session. Between battles you earn resources and invest them in a fully unlockable upgrade tree. New units, stronger armour, cheaper reinforcements and better support powers gradually expand your options and the variety of your armies.
The visual style is bright and cartoonish, with chunky soldiers and vehicles that look like toys on a sandy tabletop. That playful look contrasts with the chaotic action on screen. Physics-based combat sends wrecks flying, buildings crumble and almost everything can explode. The camera stays focused on the front line, so you always see where the fighting is fiercest, and the interface keeps unit prices, cooldowns and resources clearly in view at the bottom of the screen.
The developers describe the business model in plain words: buy the game and you get the game. There are no microtransactions and nothing to pay for in order to win. The game offers full controller support, achievements and cloud saves. It is easy to learn, yet experimenting with complementary unit synergies and different research paths keeps it interesting long after the first victories.
Warpips runs on Windows 8.1 or 10 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a GeForce GT 420 or Radeon HD 5570 graphics card, and it needs only 550 MB of space. For players who love strategy but prefer short, intense sessions over long campaigns, it offers a fun and accessible war game where every decision counts and the battlefield almost always ends in a spectacular explosion.
