It is a modern remaster of the classic Asterix & Obelix XXL, rebuilt with updated visuals while keeping the cheerful spirit of the original. The famous comic heroes return in a lively journey packed with slapstick fights, bright landscapes and plenty of the gentle humour that made the series so beloved across Europe.

The story begins in 50 BC with a disaster. While Asterix and Obelix are out hunting wild boar, the Romans attack the little Gaulish village, burn it to the ground and carry off its inhabitants. Determined to bring everyone home, Asterix and Obelix set off on a long trip across the Roman Empire, joined by the loyal little dog Dogmatix. Each stop brings them closer to Rome and to Caesar himself, who is behind the whole scheme.

The adventure travels through several memorable regions. You begin in Normandy and then visit Greece, Helvetia and Egypt before finally reaching Rome. Each world has its own look, enemies, traps and secrets, from sunny villages to dusty deserts and alpine scenery. Along the way you free fellow villagers such as Impedimenta, Panacea and Getafix, and each rescue gives a satisfying sense of progress as the scattered community slowly comes back together.

Combat is the heart of the experience and it is joyfully over the top. Thanks to the famous magic potion, the heroes can send entire groups of enemies flying with a single punch. You fight crowds of Roman legionaries, pirates and Vikings, chaining combos and special moves for big scores. Large battles in Roman camps such as Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium are a highlight, with waves of soldiers that make every victory feel delightfully explosive.

You can switch between Asterix and Obelix at any time, and each hero has a distinct style. Asterix is quick and agile, while Obelix relies on raw strength and a powerful charge. Swapping between them helps you solve simple puzzles, cross platforming sections and handle different groups of enemies. Coins and helmets are scattered everywhere, encouraging exploration of every corner, and collecting them unlocks upgrades that make your favourite moves even stronger.

This remastered edition adds four new modes that give extra reasons to keep playing. Retro lets you enjoy the game in its original style, Course challenges you to finish quickly, Countdown puts pressure on you with a ticking clock, and Extreme raises the difficulty for experienced players. Twenty-eight achievements add more goals to chase, so even after the main story is over there is plenty left to explore, master and replay at your own pace.
