About Chris Sawyer's Locomotion

Chris Sawyer's Locomotion is a transport business simulation designed by Chris Sawyer, the creator of Transport Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon. First released in 2004, it is often seen as the spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon. Your goal is to build a profitable transportation empire by connecting towns and industries across large, detailed landscapes. Starting with a modest budget, you lay routes, buy vehicles and grow your company from a small local operation into a network that spans the whole map.

Railways are the backbone of the game. You lay track over hills and rivers, build bridges, tunnels and stations, and set up signals so that several trains can share the same lines safely. Alongside trains you can run trams, buses and trucks on roads, ships along rivers and coasts and aircraft between airports. Each industry produces and needs specific goods, such as coal for power stations or oil for refineries, so smart planning of supply chains is the key to profit.

Vehicles and technology change as the years pass. Campaigns start in eras as early as 1900, when early locomotives and horse-drawn wagons dominate, and progress towards modern high-speed trains and jet aircraft. Towns grow when they are well connected, creating more passengers and demand for goods. You compete with rival companies controlled by the computer, each with its own personality, and the stock market lets you buy shares or even take over competitors when they weaken.

The game offers around 40 scenarios with different objectives, from reaching a set company value to transporting a certain amount of cargo, as well as a landscape editor for creating your own maps. A two-player network mode is also included. With its charming isometric graphics, deep economic simulation and classic tycoon gameplay, Locomotion is a great pick for players who enjoy building complex networks and watching their transport empire come to life.
