About Corridor Z
Corridor Z is a zombie action runner developed by Mass Creation and published by We Dig Games, released on 8 January 2018 for Windows, Mac and Linux. It drops you into an ordinary high school on the worst day imaginable, when a sudden outbreak turns students and staff into the hungry undead. There is no time to hide and no safe room waiting at the end of the hall. The only option is to run, keep running and never look back for too long.
The core idea is simple and wonderfully tense. The camera faces you while the horde chases from behind, so you always see the danger closing in. Corridors stretch ahead and the school becomes a maze of classrooms, lockers, offices and gloomy service areas. Every second counts, and a single wrong move can let the pursuers catch up. The motto of the game sums it up perfectly: be quick or be undead, because hesitation is the fastest way to join the infected crowd.
Running alone will not save you, so the environment becomes your best weapon. As you sprint through the building you can knock over lockers, shelves, desks and other objects to block the path behind you. Placing obstacles at the right moment slows down the zombies and buys precious breathing room. Learning where useful objects stand in each corridor is a big part of mastering the levels, and it turns every escape into a small puzzle solved at full speed.
When the pressure gets too high you can also turn around and fight back. An upgradeable arsenal of pistols, SMGs and shotguns lets you thin out the horde, and the game rewards precision, so aiming for the head is always the smart choice. Ammunition and time are both limited, which means you need to balance shooting with running. Upgrading your weapons between attempts makes later stages more manageable without removing the feeling of constant danger and pursuit.
Three very different survivors carry the story. You can play as the pom-pom girl, the jock or the jarhead, and each character comes with their own set of objectives to complete. Trying every hero gives the campaign extra variety and encourages you to replay levels with new goals in mind. The characters also add a lighthearted, almost cinematic touch to the grim setting, like the cast of a classic horror film fighting to survive one terrible school day.
Beyond the chase there is a mystery to solve. Scattered across the school are lost audio-log recordings that slowly reveal the truth about the origin of the infection. Finding them requires sharp eyes during the most hectic moments, which adds a layer of exploration to the action. Thirteen achievements and leaderboards give you more reasons to return, improve your times and compare your best results with other survivors, so each run feels worth another try.
Corridor Z runs on Windows 7 SP1, 8 or 10 with a Core i3 2100 or FX-4100, 2 GB of RAM, a graphics card with 512 MB such as a GT 720, HD 5450 or Intel HD 5000, DirectX 9.0c and only 500 MB of storage. It also runs on Mac and Linux, and it comes with full English audio. For anyone who enjoys short, intense bursts of horror action, it is a compact and memorable zombie escape.
