About Despelote

Despelote is a semi-autobiographical first-person adventure developed by Julián Cordero and Sebastian Valbuena and published by Panic. Steam release date: 1 May 2025.

It is 2001 and Ecuador is closer than ever to its first World Cup. As eight-year-old Julián you wander Quito's parks, streets and schoolyards with a ball at your feet, kicking it at friends, cones and strangers while the whole country holds its breath. The game is short, playful and observational, mixing real recorded audio and photographed locations into a distinctive, grainy art style. There are no scores or stats, only small moments that add up to a portrait of a city and a childhood.

Related Games

If the gentle, everyday storytelling of Despelote stays with you, A Space for the Unbound is a natural next stop: it is another coming-of-age tale rooted in a real place, this time a small Indonesian town in the late 1990s. Gone Home trades the streets of Quito for a single empty family house, yet it shares the same patience for ordinary objects that slowly reveal a life. For the pure joy of messing about outdoors as a kid, Lil Gator Game turns a playground of hills and beaches into an adventure you invent as you go. And Arcade Paradise carries that warm turn-of-the-millennium nostalgia into a 1990s arcade, where small routines become the whole point.
