About Hard West
Hard West is a turn-based tactical game set in a dark and supernatural version of the American Wild West. It was developed by the Polish studio CreativeForge Games and released in 2015. The frontier here is not only a land of outlaws, bounty hunters and dusty towns, but also a place where demons, curses and occult forces shape the fate of everyone who passes through. Told through a narrator and illustrated story sequences, the game follows a series of connected tales about revenge, greed and survival, in which ordinary people are pushed to make hard choices and pay a heavy price for them.
The campaign is split into eight scenarios with around forty missions in total. Each scenario has its own characters, map and mechanics, so one may focus on a family feud, another on a mining town gripped by madness and a third on a hunt for a legendary treasure. Between battles you travel across a stylized map, visit locations, make decisions in short text events and manage resources such as money, equipment and recruits. These choices often change what happens next, which gives the scenarios a strong sense of replay value.
Combat takes place on detailed grid-based maps and rewards careful positioning. You move your gunslingers between cover, use shadows to spot hidden enemies and look for angles that give you the advantage. Beyond a simple hit chance, every character has a pool of luck that grows when they are shot at and can be spent to dodge bullets or improve accuracy. Special shots let you ricochet bullets off metal objects to reach enemies behind cover, and as the story unfolds your characters gain unusual powers tied to the dark forces of the West.
