About Heavenly Bodies

Heavenly Bodies is a physics game about cosmonauts, the human body and the absence of gravity, developed by 2pt Interactive and published together with Team17, released on 7 December 2021. You play as a cosmonaut entrusted with bringing into operation one of Earth's proudest feats of engineering, a scientific research station orbiting the planet. With only radio contact with mission control to guide you, every task must be carried out by hand in a place where nothing stays still, nothing is secure and nothing is simple, which makes even small jobs a real adventure.

The heart of the game is its unique movement system. You do not simply walk; you control each of the cosmonaut's arms separately with the two analogue sticks of a controller, grabbing handles, pushing off walls and pulling yourself carefully through the modules. Every movement is fully physically simulated, so momentum, rotation and drift all matter. At first floating around feels clumsy and funny, but with practice you learn graceful manoeuvres that let you glide precisely to where you need to be, which is deeply satisfying.

The missions are inspired by real achievements of space explorers and researchers throughout history. You will assemble space telescopes, maintain delicate solar arrays, handle incredibly expensive space vehicles, operate elaborate machinery and even research cosmic botany. Each scenario is a self-contained puzzle where you must work out how to move objects and yourself without gravity. The stylised 1970s visual aesthetic, influenced by archival space photography and technical illustration, gives the station a warm and distinctive retro look.

Missions can be played solo or with a friend in local co-op on the same screen, and online play is possible through Remote Play Together. Working as a pair adds plenty of teamwork and laughter as you pass tools and steady each other in mid-air. Control difficulty can be customised, controls are rebindable, and a detailed list of accessibility features is available. A gamepad is strongly recommended, because keyboard and mouse are supported but do not offer the intended experience. Cloud saves and achievements are included.
