About Kernel Hearts

Kernel Hearts is Ephemera Games’ action RPG and roguelike about four magical girls trying to save a world drowning in ashes. As members of the M.A.H.O.U Unit, they ascend the Tower of Babel and fight the angelic creatures guarding its domains.

Every expedition combines attacks, spells and movement with powers discovered during the current run. Enemies reward combinations that link those tools together, while each level closes with a fight against its domain guardian.

A failed push returns the Unit to its latest memory backup in a laboratory near humanity’s last refuge. Rewards gathered in the tower unlock chips for MAHOU.OS; up to 256KB can be equipped to reshape a Unit’s build. Tower energy also breaks the Heavenly Curse briefly, triggering a nearby attack and a magical-girl transformation.

The result is a run-based action journey that alternates fast combat with deliberate loadout work at the laboratory. Single-player supports an individual climb, while online co-op lets allies combine their chosen powers. Gifts and conversations with the tower’s inhabitants add character bonds between expeditions.
